Propane: The Eco-friendly Energy Source You Should Be Using

Earth Day

Earth Day is right around the corner, and there is no better way to show your concern for the environment than using an eco-friendly energy source like propane.

What is Earth Day?

Earth Day is the day on which countries around the globe come together in support of Mother Nature and to raise awareness of how everyone can do their part to pollute less, conserve more, and generally be more environmentally friendly to protect the planet for future generations.

Earth Day began on April 22, 1970 in the U.S. when, acting in response to a major oil spill in California the previous year, politicians from both sides of the aisle came together to establish a day focused on learning about the environment.  Since then, Earth Day has become a global phenomenon celebrated every April 22nd for the past 52 years.

Did you know Earth Day is credited with leading to the establishment of the Environmental Protection Agency, as well as the creation of the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Clean Air Act? For more information on Earth Day, check out The History of Earth Day – Earth Day.

How Can You Celebrate Earth Day Every Day?

There are many ways to show you care about the planet, from small acts like recycling, to larger gestures, like reducing your carbon footprint.  Using propane instead of other fuels is a great way to show you care about the Earth while potentially saving money, as propane is a great way to reduce carbon emissions Environment | PERC (propane.com).

What is Propane?

Propane is a component of natural gas that is separated during processing to become its own fuel.  Because propane is eco-friendly before and after processing, it does not have the detrimental effects other fuels have on the planet.

How is Propane Environmentally Friendly?

There are many, many reasons why propane is the go-to environmentally friendly energy source today.  For starters, propane is non-toxic and non-caustic.  It is clean and eco-friendly even in its unused state.  It’s so environmentally friendly that it isn’t even considered to be a greenhouse gas! In fact, propane emissions even exceed the emissions requirements for clean fuel vehicles! Propane, Emissions, The Environment and Green Energy (propane101.com). It may come as no surprise then that propane is listed as an approved clean fuel by U.S. Government energy policy makers and that researchers have determined using propane cuts smog producing exhaust by as much as 70 percent!

Just take a look at the following eco-friendly facts about propane:

  • Propane is NOT harmful to water or marine life
  • Propane is NOT harmful to the soil
  • Propane vapor does NOT cause air pollution

How much more eco-friendly can one fuel be?  The answer is not much!  According to the president and CEO of PERC (Propane Education & Resource Council), “propane could arguably be one of the more perfect tools as we think about decarbonizing, as we think about human health, planet health…” (Environment | PERC (propane.com).  Simply put, propane is better for the entire environment, from the land, to water, to air.
